Reliability

This is the scale of uptime the hotelkeeper guarantees and don’t credit word underneath 99.5% of uptime. Look for what safeguards and backup servers a hosting outfit uses through downtime instrument your niche is invisible.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth is the assessment of front-page that can be downloaded or transferred from your station each month. Inexpensive lattice hosting packages offer you a secondary expense seeing when your pad is expanded you probably won’t need much. But if your traffic takes off and you need that bandwidth your additional monthly charges could be high. Look for 10GB minimum with many web hosts offering 40 to 50 GB at no additional charge.

Disk Storage Space

You may ensconce out with a humble net apartment but when you progress you’ll mania supplementary disk space. Again some less invaluable web hosts leave offer you a low amount of space and charge extra when you need more. Look for 200MB disk space as a minimum with 800MB to 1000MB being offered by the best web hosting packages.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

FTP allows you to transmit files to and from your Web habitat from your computer and is this recommended for you are in break down control. One deal with freebie netting hosting services are not a befitting understanding is enormously don’t offer FTP. If you consider a web host without FTP you will be sacrificing price for control over your web site.

Advanced Features

Complete web hosting packages present you latest complexion groove on CGI Scripts, PHP, MySQL, and PERL. You may stabilize lynch with a smooth lattice town but these advanced features will be valuable tools once your web business grows larger. If you don’t have the software to build your site, look for a deluxe web site hosting plan offering you a web site builder. This saves you from spending additional money on web building software.

Price

While charge should always be a consideration, the boon purport for your domination is always more desirable than the cheapest publication price. Be sharp of lacework hosts charging glum ledger fees because many make it up by charging you for additional services.

Guarantee

The consummate net hosting packages should adduce a 30 duration mark convey guarantee if you are not wholly satisfied. At headmost the peak web hosting plans offer this kind of guarantee.

If you have a website then adding a forum to it increases traffic and the popularity of your site. If your site is about a specialist hobby for example, on which you are an expert, it can be useful to put up a forum so that your visitors can ask questions, and benefit not only from your knowledge, but also from that of other visitors.

When you first add a forum to your site you cannot expect to attract many members, and at first you may get disillusioned. But give it time, and you will find your forum should start to take off and begin to buzz. Be prepared to wait 6 months or more!

But what happens when it eventually takes off? Well, here is the crunch. The more successful your forum, the more work you will have to do!

Firstly, you need to vet and monitor who is joining your forum. You will be amazed at the number of people who try to join simply to advertise another website - and believe me, unless you are running a pharmaceutical site or giving sex advice most of these websites will be totally inappropriate for your forum. Especially if it is a hobby site and you are attracting teenagers to the conversations. So, the answer is that you will have to vet and approve each person who joins. TIP: Forum software, such as that provided with the Vodahost package (click link below for more information) can be altered so that people cannot add a website when they join your forum. Another tip is to add a question on registration asking ‘are you human?’. Bots will ignore this question, and you can prevent registration if this happens.

Secondly you will need to moderate all the comments on your forum - and reading through and checking for language etc. will take quite a bit of your time. You may find yourself settling down to add a new page to your site, and then find you’ve spent the whole evening catching up on all the new posts on your forum, and answering them as well. What is the danger of not doing this? You need to keep on top of your posts as spammers will try and infiltrate the forum - again, particularly important if you have young people posting. Although you may have followed the tip above and stopped people entering a website when they register, they can easily put one on in a post!

Thirdly, if you are getting a number of new posts every day, what will happen if you can’t check the forum for a few days, if you take a holiday for example? You need to make sure you, or a trusted person, can keep in touch with what is going on. TIP: Set up one or more ‘moderators’, people who enjoy using the forum, and who you can trust to remove or edit inappropriate entries. As more members join, set up more moderators - these can either be people you already know and trust, or people whose posts you admire and who are knowledgeable about the subject. You will probably find they are flattered by being asked to help you, and will give you the satisfaction of knowing that your forum is in save hands.

Finally, forums are great fun. To see a successful forum thrive is a great part of website building and can give you an enormous sense of actually having added something. Just like anything else, success also comes with work attached. Make sure you are organised and know how to respond to the problems, and all will be well.

According to the providers, the disk space offered varies between a megabyte and hundreds of gigabytes. For a disk space intended for a commercial Web site, one can find hosting services for a score around $10 dollars per month, more if one needs something larger. A firm which wants to have a bigger website can thus make it for about thirty dollars per month (taxes included) if it creates and maintains its Web pages itself.

The first thing to make is to determine if one wants to have a personal or company Web page. For an individual or a family it is a way of making photographs, documents, news and even videos available for friends or other members of the family. One quickly takes pleasure to do it and those who created their personal Web page are proud to have made it. For a company, it should be well understood that more and more people are using Internet to find what they need. Whatever the product which one sells or service that one offers he can have only advantages to have at least a page of presentation on Internet because Internet is like an immense index of yellow pages in which one makes keyword search.

When one decides to make a Web site, it is necessary to find a web host which offers a good service at a competitive price. The web host on which one installs his Web site can logically be located anywhere in the world but it is nevertheless preferable to choose it in the same country. If the Web site is in Canada, for example, there are strong chances that the access to the data is faster for Canadians than for people of other countries. Furthermore, there are fewer risks that the forwarded information is intercepted. On the other hand, if the personal or commercial website is in another country, the data which are there actually pass through several countries where it can be intercepted, copied or used before reaching the computer of the person who wants to read it. If one wants to put personal information on a Web site or make a safe commercial Web site, it is preferable to choose a web hosting provider as close as possible to the public concerned.

For the personal pages as well as for the commercial ones, one can find entirely free web hosting but it should be well understood that they make profitable their business either by displaying advertising on your pages or by recovering information on the visitors of your pages to resell to them thereafter. There is no ‘free lunch’ in this field. It is often best to pay some dollars to be quiet and sure of the service quality. The web hosting providers usually indicate to their customers that they offer space for personal or commercial websites and under which conditions. In the case of a commercial Web site, it is necessary to insist to have a tender containing all the costs because certain web hosting providers invoice more for the occupied disk space, according to the number of accessed files or even according to access time, whereas others demand one overall price. It is also necessary to provide for additional costs if one wants to use a safe server, to obtain a certificate of authentification, to have his own domain name, to make transactions on line, etc.

At the time of choice one can benefit from asking what technical support it is offered. It is necessary at least to be able to consult a small guide explaining how to transfer the files from your pages to the host computer. Most of the time that is done via an access ftp, in other words a standard file transfer system, but sometimes certain web hosting providers want to receive the files with the personal pages in the form of files attached to an e-mail message. For the design of a commercial Web site, which must represent the company image, it is sometimes preferable to call upon a web page design service which is offered by many web hosting providers; if you do it, do not forget to ask to see some examples and indicate the maximum price which you are ready to pay. Knowing these, you may consider taking a close look at Startlogic Web Hosting Services and you should now be prepared to get started with your web site.

Marcus Laval is a senior IT analyst with an experience of more than 20 years, who has written more articles on the web hosting market and on the highly recommended Startlogic Web Hosting Services.

I have been hosting some of my websites with Site5 for about a year now. I also have other websites hosted in other web hosting companies. Here is my review for site5 based on my own personal experience with them

Why I choose Site5

I got to know about Site5 through the webhostingtalk forums. At that time, I was searching for a reliable and reputable cheap web hosting company for a couple of my new websites. And I’ve heard a lot of good reviews about Site5 and so decide to try them out. Since they have a 60 day money back refund, I figure if I did not like it, I would ask for my money back. Anyway, I was basically testing their web hosting on my new websites so I was not terribly affected.

Site5 Hosting Plan

Site5 only offer two types of hosting plan : shared and reseller. So I took the superhosting extreme package. Basically here’s the brief web hosting package details :

Diskspace : 8GB

Bandwidth : 500GB

Multisite Accounts : 5

Unlimited : domain pointers, ftp, mysql

It also comes with fantastico, cpanel. All this for about $109 annually which is pretty cheap. Please note this hosting plan is no longer available and is replaced with multisite dynamite plan. It is basically the same as my previous plan except for more diskspace and bandwidth. As I’m writing this, they have a promotion where you can get this hosting plan for 2 years at only $149 which I consider to be a good deal.

Unique Features of Site5 hosting

One feature I like about site5 hosting is the multisite accounts. It is basically a full featured control panel for each domain. Unlike other shared web hosting companies which uses domain pointers, a multisite accounts exists on its own with its own subdomains, domain pointer, ftp, mysql etc. This help me to organize my websites better especially if you have a lot of domains. You can set the diskspace and bandwidth from the main pool of your web hosting account.

The other feature is the flashback which allows you to undo any changes you make to your website. It is a life saver especially when a website breaks down and you do not know the cause.

Things that can be improved

Though I like Site5 and would recommend it to friends, there are a few things that could make it better. One of them is the upgrade option. I recently upgraded my hosting plan to multisite dynamite and was told I had to shift to another server. The problem was I had to do the data transfer myself. With 3GB of data to transfer, not to mention the dozens of ftp, mysql and email accounts, it was a real hassle. Something I am sure their staff could have easily completed in a short time.

The other thing I didn’t like was I could not request for more IP addresses. If you know about SEO, then you know how having multiple IP addresses can be useful.

In all, I would still recommend site5 due to its cheap web hosting plan, good support and high availability.

To build a website, there are four methods to choose from:

FIRST METHOD:

Get a professional designer to build the site for you:

It is expensive in creation process, site maintenance and development.

SECOND METHOD:

Designing the site with free website hosting:

In this case, just sign in the website that offers this service, and start building your own website.

Free Hosting Sites:

Disadvantages of this method (Free Web Hosting):

• Small size-Limited web page space

• Can’t create interactive features (message boards, online ordering, etc.)

• Advertisements-May have banners and/or pop ads on your homepage

• Long and hard to remember web address (instead of http://yourdomain.com)

• No branded email addresses (you@yourdomain.com)

• Weak technical support-Poor help and support options

• May not be free forever

• No seriousness to the site

So it is better to choose a cheap Hosting sites with reasonable prices, you will get a better quality and a higher credibility.

THIRD METHOD:

Professional Web Hosting:

Design the site by a web page designer program (computer software) and use one of the hosting sites.

Web Page designer programs:

There is a lot of computer software available to help you build and manage your website, you may use one or more of them:

1. Microsoft FrontPage

2. Macromedia Dreamweaver/Fireworks Studio

3. Adobe GoLive/Adobe ImageStyler

4. Flash & Swish

FrontPage program is the famous and most important one.

• Servermatrix – http://servermatrix.com

• Infinology- http://infinology.com

Because this method needs to learn a new program with the knowledge of HTML, so it is not our recommended method.

FOUTRH METHOD: (recommended method)

Build the site with SiteBuilder and choose the Hosting package:

This method is the easiest and fastest way to create a website without any previous knowledge of web site building and without any HTML experience.

How to find which hosting package meets your needs.

When a web hosting company says bandwidth it is referring to
your transfer. So you need to figure out yourself what is
sufficient for your site to function. Don’t worry I am
here to help you choose the best hosting company package
available for your requirements. I will tell you how to
calculate and the magic works for you and the end result will be
exactly the same you are looking for which is cheap for your
budget and best in terms of services.

All you need to gather some information; it would be easy if you
already have a site if don’t have a website and planning
to start worry don’t worry http://www.hostfinders.org
team is hear to help you.

Those who already own the site kindly see your traffic history
of website you will find most of this information is available
there.

Don’t have an existing site, provide an optimistic
estimate if you intend to heavily promote the site. Then get
ready for some math.

Find out the daily averages of:

• Number of visitors / expected number of visitors

• Page size including the graphics of the page

• Page views / expected pages viewed by each visitor

Then, multiply them as follows:

Visitors x Page size x Page views x 30 days = Monthly Website
Transfer

This is easy few calculations and you find the answer which
hosting package suits your needs.

You should also throw in a small margin or error there to take
into account email traffic and your own uploads to the server.
If you offer downloads, then you should add the following:

Average/Expected downloads x File Size x 30 days = Monthly
Download Transfer

To help you from hassle as there are a lot of companies that
promise good services, few I personally recommends are:
Freeservers,
StartLogic, midPhase

There are various reasons why you might want to move your website. Your website might get so much traffic that your current hosting provider cannot meet your needs any more. Or you might have the more common reason of being tired of bad service!

Keep these points in mind when you move your website:

1. Backup, backup, backup

Your website is a precious possession and you do not want to lose it. You need to make a copy of your site as it is and then move it across to your new host. There are various ways of achieving this.

You can either

a) Use your favorite FTP program and copy the files from your ‘old’ host to a safe place on your local PC. Copy all the files and folders from your server to your local machine. This will ensure that all your files and pictures are located in the right folders.

b) You can use the built-in backup facilities of your control panel. In CPanel it is easy. For other types of control panels you will have to read the documentation or find out from your hosting provider how to do it. In CPanel, just select the Backups icon and choose the ‘Download a home directory backup’ link. This will create a ZIP file of all the files on your server.

If your site consists of straightforward HTML pages, a file backup is all that is required; however, if your site has dynamic content and is built on a database engine, you must backup your SQL database as well. This can also be done in two ways.

a) By selecting Download a MySQL Database Backup in the Backups option in your CPanel, or

b) By going directly into your MySQL database and running a full SQL export.

If you are not sure whether your site makes use of a database or not, you should definitely consult your webmaster or web hosting expert to do this for you.

2. Making the move consists of

a) creating an account with the new hosting providers and

b) changing the name server entries for your website. This can be done by logging into your domain registrar provider (like Namecheap or GoDaddy) and selecting their ‘Name server Setup’ option. When you created the new account with the new provider, you should have received an email with the name servers that you should use. These are normally in the form ns1.nameserver.net or dns1.nameserver.net… You should have received two new name servers - enter these into the name server fields and save.

Your domain has now been set to point to the new name servers, but it takes anything between 8 and 48 hours for the actual change to take place (this is called DNS propagation).

Your account has been created, the domain is going to point to the new servers, but your files have not been uploaded.

In your welcome email from your new host, you should have received information about your FTP account, as well as how to access your Control Panel account temporarily until the DNS propagation has taken place properly. You can now either upload your files through FTP, or log into your control panel (hopefully CPanel again), and go to the ‘Backups’ option again. You can now restore the file backup that you made previously, and restore the MySQL backup that you’ve made.

Your website now basically exists in two places, on the old server as well as the new server. While the DNS propagation takes place, some visitors will see the old site, and some the new. As soon as the propagation is complete, all your visitors will see the new site.

Some points to consider:

1. If you are running a dynamic site with lots of visitor interaction (e.g. a forum) it might be wise to switch off the old site completely while the propagation takes place. You might lose some visitors to the old site, but if you don’t do this you will find that visitors will still interact and post messages on the old site and these will never end up on the new one. (Remember, your backup is a snapshot in time. Anything that is posted to the old site after you have taken the backup will NOT appear on the new site)

2. Emails must also be set up on the new site. For a while you ARE going to have an interruption in the email service. It helps to change your mail server settings in your Outlook or Outlook Express to point directly to the IP address of the mail server.

3. You will lose all your logs, including all traffic logs and visitor statistics, when you move. If you are interested in retaining your log files you might or might not be able to download them to your PC and use an offline analyzer.

4. Make sure that you do the move during a low-traffic period. You should be able to see from your website statistics which periods during the week have low traffic. Remember that the move is going to take 48 hours to complete, at least.

5. Inform your customers and, visitors and web hosting company of the move.

6. Keep your old web hosting account for at least another week or two to ensure all problems are ironed out and that the DNS propagation has taken place properly.

Some websites with popular names used to be considered “cybersquatting,” a longstanding Internet tactic where entrepreneurs register cheap domain names either associated with a particular subject or a company and then try to sell the name for a quick profit. But new-generation sites go a little further, reaping ad revenue.

Media companies and advertising networks are now recognizing the central role a domain name plays in bringing users to Internet properties.

A domain name works like an address forwarding service.

All of your Web site content sits on a computer with a unique address. This is called an IP address. An IP address is made up of a series of numbers, such as 123.23.234.45. Your domain name will direct visitors to your site using this IP address.

We use domain names instead of IP addresses because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a series of numbers.

A .name domain name works just like a .com, but you use your actual name as part of the address, it’s even more personal and easy to remember.

This is the world’s first domain exclusively for individuals. With .name you can create a single and permanent digital identity using your own personal name. It is easy to remember and perfect for a personal Web site to communicate with family and friends.

What’s in a name?

Well, when it comes to the age of Internet marketing, everything.

Domain Basics: What, Why, and How

What’s in a domain name? A lot more than you might think. Your domain name can be your first impression, your face to the outside world, and your new marketing plan. Learn more about what domain names are, why you should take the time to choose a good one for yourself, and how to go about it.

What is a domain name? A domain name is an address for the Internet. It helps people find your web site. Just as homes and businesses have street addresses, all web sites have domain names.

A domain name is made up of two parts, typically preceded by www. Let’s use Netfirms.com as an example:

The first part, NetFirms, is a unique name that represents the web site. The second part, com, is the extension, and stands for “commercial.” There are many extensions available, though .com, .net, .biz, .info, and .us are the most popular extensions in the United States.

Why is a good domain name important? A good domain name helps you in numerous ways.

For Businesses:-

Add your domain name to your business card, email signature, and other advertisements.

Build credibility: Show your customers that you have an established business.

Improve your marketing: Provide customers an easy way to remember and contact you.

Protect your brand: Secure the domain name that best represents your business name — and keep it out of the hands of your competitors.

For Consumers:-

Describe your site as best you can with your domain name. For example, a pair of amateur magicians might use their stage names, some combination of words including magic, or the name of their most famous trick.

How do I choose a domain name? Keep these tips in mind as you select your domain name.

Your domain name should reflect your business name or the topic your site will cover. It should be a unique and concise name that is easy to say, remember, and spell. You can use only letters, numbers, and hyphens in your domain name. Spaces or other symbols are not allowed. If your first choice isn’t available, try rearranging the word order, adding hyphens, or using abbreviations or locations to come up with a unique alternative.

Once you have a domain name, you need a web site! Luckily, you came to the right place. It’s easy to add iPower.com services that help you build a full web site or open an online store.
